
Somehow working with plaster has been my life for many years beginning as an assistant in an orthodontic lab, to creating plaster negative molds to create sculptures, influenced by Bertil Vallien, glass designer, and ultimately to study painting buon fresco (wet plaster), as a student in Leonetto and Elena's Tintori's Fresco Laboratory of Vainella, Prato, Italy

I currently focus on stucco lucido, a technique by which pigment blended with an encaustic medium is applied to the intonico, or final layer, and then burnished to a shine. I use stampini and gold to embellish areas within the giornata, not only as decorative means but to offer a narrative to the viewer.

Working on a daily basis, on a small area at a time, called a giornata, allows me to switch techniques to create variety in texture. Finished pieces are comprised of 7-11 components or giornate.
I continue to research scholarly articles about the history behind Roman Fresco techniques, materials and processes, and regularly visit working sites in Pompeii and Ercolano, Italy.
